In the interests of combatting anti-Semitism, it would be preferable not to create a “privileged Jewish class,” Dr. Stevan Riess, Hungarian Minister of Justice, said here today.
Dr. Riess, who attended the international Socialist congress held at Clacton over the week-end, pointed out that a special fund to aid Jews has been set up by the Hungarian Government from the proceeds of property belonging to hairless Jews. He also cited legislation making anti-Semitism a punishable offense. The Minister of Justice pointed out, however, that Hungary is a badly damaged country and said that nothing should be done to give encouragement to the anti-Semitic agitation of reactionary forces.
Berl Locker and Moshe Shertok represented the Palestine Labor Party at the international Socialist conference. Locker reported to the conference on the Jewish labor movement’s achievements in Palestine and the present situation in the country. Shertok participated in the general debate and discussed the international aspects of Zionism.
