A caucus of the Illinois delegation to the Republican National Convention here has adopted a resolution condemning the injection of racial and religious bigotry into the political campaign.
The resolution also calls on the National Campaign Committee to issue a statement after the convention denouncing bigotry and informing all local sections of the Republican Party that it will not tolerate the use of bigotry for its candidate and platform.
At his press conference today Senator Robert A. Taft again denounced the injection of anti-racial and anti-religious literature into the political campaign, and came out in full support of the resolution adopted by the Illinois caucus. The resolution was offered by delegate Brigadier General Julius Klein of Chicago and seconded by delegate George B. McKibbon.
The Senator stated: “People like that are un-American and have no place on the American scene. I am in full accord with the Illinois resolution; it sustains the position I have always taken. If anyone is found in the ranks of our party who is responsible for the distribution of this type of literature, he should be thrown out of the party.”
