It may possibly interest those of our readers who are in the habit of reading their contemporary German novels and biography in the original language that the Van Riemsdyck Book Service, the Dutch import and export house at 15 West 45th Street, New York City, is the American agent for the Querido Verlag of Amsterdam, under whose imprint some of the leading German authors are being published today.
The Van Riemsdyck firm has just received from Amsterdam copies of Lion Feuchtwanger’s “Der Juedische Krieg”, which American readers know under its translated title, “Josephus”, and of Heinrich Mann’s “Der Hass”, which might be translated as “Hate” and which bears the sub-title of “Deutsche Zeitgeschichte.” Other books which are to be brought out by Querido and which in all probability will be available here include Alfred Doeblin’s “Juedische Erneurung” (Jewish Renaissance), Lion Feuchtwanger’s “Die Geschwister Oppermann” (The Oppermann Sisters), Emil Ludwig’s “Gesprachte Mit Masaryk” (Talks with Masaryk) and Joseph Roth’s “Der Rote Bart” (The Red Beard).
