The effect of war conditions on Jewish communal life is reflected in figures just published showing that the income of constituent synagogues of the United Synagogue dropped £15,651 in the current year, or 19 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.

Synagogues’ officers have been warned that retrenchments already made will not suffice and more far-reaching steps are unavoidable unless membership can be maintained and contributions, including offerings, forthcoming in the near future.
