The members of the Bnei Israel community of Indian Jews who have been conducting a two-week hunger strike in protest against marriage procedure directives of the Chief Rabbinate which they consider discriminatory, ended their fast today but decided to continue their sit-down strike across from the Chief Rabbinate’s headquarters.
The National Religious Party, meanwhile, adopted a resolution identifying itself with the Chief Rabbinate’s position and charging that the issue would be settled if it were not for incitement by outside political elements.
