Funeral services are scheduled for Rabbi Isaac Leib Hechtman, former executive vice president of the Jewish Community Council here and director of the Beth Din, who died yesterday of a heart attack. He was 67 years old.
Hechtman was actively involved in the plight of Soviet Jewry, having visited the Soviet Union 12 times at the invitation of the Moscow Jewish community. He was successful in getting many Hebrew writings distributed in the Soviet Union and also supplies needed by the Jewish community there.
He was the editor and chief contributor of the Voice of the Vaad Yair and the author of several booklets on kashrut. He was also founder of the Torah Youth Council of Montreal. He will be buried in Israel.
