Work on the Jordan River dam and canal along the Israel-Syrian border was scheduled to halt at midnight tonight, an Israel Government spokesman revealed late today. He said work actually ended at the close of the working day, but some workers remained behind to control water seepage.
The government spokesman reiterated that the suspension of work was temporary and “without prejudice to the merits” of the case. He also stressed that the Israel Government had made its offer in order to facilitate the Security Council’s investigation of the question.
