The Israel Government formally called on the United States, Britain and France today to note the Israeli offer to meet with Jordan at United Nations headquarters in New York to thresh out all existing problems connected with the Jordan-Israel armistice.
The Israeli bid for a face-to-face meeting was made last Thursday when Israel’s delegate to the United Nations, Abba S. Eban, addressed the Security Council which is weighing the Palestine security question.
In identical notes handed to the envoys of the three powers, the Israeli Foreign Ministry stressed the importance it attached to this proposal and pointed out that its acceptance by Jordan could mark an important step towards remedying the Palestine situation.
Israeli envoys in the capitals of members of the Security Council were also instructed to present similar notes to the respective foreign ministries to enlist support for the Israeli proposals.
The Jordan-Israel agreement for meetings of local commanders to handle border problems was extended today for another three months by the Jordan-Israel Mixed Armistice Commission. The commission also discussed four complaints of armistice violations, two submitted by Israel and two by Jordan. Action on all was dropped or deferred.
