The Israel Cabinet today discussed the security situation of the country in the light of the continued Egyptian and Jordanian acts of aggressions which took place during the last few days. Note was taken of the two statements issued during the week-end at United Nations headquarters by UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold in connection with the latest Arab-Israel border incidents.
Official military as well as civilian circles today indicated that they know nothing of any incidents referred to in one of Mr. Hammarskjold’s statements alleging the killing of several Egyptian soldiers. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said that all that was known about these incidents came from press reports and the reference made to them by the UN Secretary-General.
In the meantime, the UN truce supervision organization summoned the Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission for tomorrow to discuss the killing by ambush of four Israelis in an attack last Thursday on an Israeli bus. United Nations observers followed the tracks and established that the attackers fled to Jordan. An official statement to this effect was issued by the headquarters of the Truce Supervision Organization.
