The Israel Cabinet today discussed Egypt’s seizure of Israeli cargo on ships passing through the Suez Canal. However, it is believed that no definite decision has been taken. The press reports that, among possible retaliatory measures, Israel may consider the idea of seizing Egyptian vessels in the open sea, unless Egypt discontinues its practices of confiscating Israeli cargoes under the claim of belligerency, which was rejected by the Security Council of the United Nations.
Reports from Cairo today definitely stated that the Israel cargo aboard the Danish freighter Inge Toft, which was halted by the Egyptian authorities at the entrance to the Suez Canal, is being confiscated. Reports from Hong Kong received here indicate that a British company has already offered to sell there the Israeli cargo taken off by the Egyptians from the Inge Toft. Earlier, the Egyptians sold Israel cement in Hong Kong; confiscated from two ships which were detained at the Suez Canal in March.
