The Cabinet tonight named Brig. Moshe Dayan Chief of Staff of the Israel Army of Defense, to succeed Gen. Mordecai Makleff, who resigned. Brig. Dayan, who lost an eye while fighting with the British in the Syrian campaign during World War II, headed Israeli commando forces which captured Lydda airfield and the town of Lydda and operated extensively in the Negev during the Israeli War of Liberation.
