The next few years may be among the most decisive in Israel’s history and in the history of the Jews, Ambassador Eliahu Elath told the 34th annual conference of the Jewish National Fund of Britain last night. He said that in these years “we shall have to consolidate what we have already begun and, beyond that, to pursue our development policies and our work of up building so that we may be able to keep the doors of Israel open for all those Jews who need or wish to come in, to share with us in the normal life and growth of a young and vigorous society.”
“The more than 850 JNF workers from all over the British Isles also heard Yaacov Tsur, Israel’s Ambassador to Paris, take the position that there is “little basis” to the current controversy over the relationship between the State of Israel and the Zionist movement. Zionism, he continued, is more alive than ever and differences between the Zionists and ma-Zionist in the world Jewish community have practically disappeared. Another guest speaker at the parley was Col. Chaim Herzog, commander of Israel’s armed forces on the Southern Command and son of Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog.
