The belief that there is no “serious danger of Communism in the Middle East” was expressed here today by Abba Hushi, member of the Israel parliament and a leader of the Histadrut, addressing a press conference held under the auspices of the National Committee for Labor Israel. Mr. Hushi is a well-known expert on Arab affairs.
“The recent rumors that the Arabs will approach the Soviet Union for assistance are nothing more than a threat to the West,” he said.. “There is nothing behind them–they are but another Arab subterfuge.” He emphasized that “if the U.S. is going to fulfill its promise to give Israel the same opportunities as the Arab governments are receiving,” there is hope that peace may be reached between Israel and some of the Arab nations.
