Israel has extended what amounts to state health insurance to residents of the West Bank. Israeli hospitals and clinics are providing free treatment and hospitalization to West Bankers and only rarely ask the patients to contribute to the cost of the treatment. In contrast, the Jordanian government prior to the Six-Day War required patients to pay a fee.
