Israel Government Seeks Authorization to Launch “popular Loan” with Lottery Prizes

The Israel Government today sought authorization from parliament to flont a “popular loan” to raise 12,000,000 Israel pounds. Bonds in denominations of 20 pounds each would be offered for sale in the drive.

Holders of the bonds would automatically participate in a lottery, the highest prize being 25,000 pounds. A bill to this effect was submitted to parliament by Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan. It is expected that parliament will approve the bill within a week.

The municipality of Jerusalem today adopted a budget of 3,500,000 pounds — approximately $9,800,000 — for the current fiscal year. The budget includes large allocations for housing of invalids and war veterans.

A contract with a Swiss firm to build granaries in Israel ports has been signed by Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan and Communications Minister David Remez on behalf of the Israel Government, it was reported today. The first granary will be built at Haifa.
