The question of who is financing the defense of Adolf Eichmann, the Nazi war criminal who directed the mass killing of 6,000,000 Jews in Europe, was raised today in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, by Israel Bar-Yehuda, Ahdut Avoda deputy. Mr. Bar-Yehuda said that the large amount of funds required for the defense had neither been provided nor guaranteed by Eichmannis family.
The Ahdut Avoda deputy said that disclosure of the source of the funds may throw light on the content of discussions between Eichmann and his attorney, Robert Servatius, on matters other than that of defense.
Replying for the Government, Justice Minister Pinhas Rosen said he had not investigated the matter, nor did he see any need for investigating the source of the funds. He said the Government was satisfied with regard to Dr. Servatius’ personal background as anti-Nazi.
The independent daily Ha’aretz, meanwhile, criticized the agreement concluded between the Government Press Office and the Capital Cities Broadcasting Company of New York, which gave the latter exclusive right to record the trial proceedings on film and videotape. The paper noted that only the presiding judge has the right to permit filming or photographing in the courtroom.
