Israel has been officially notified that it will get the $1.5 billion in additional aid from the United States. Secretary of State George Shultz sent a message to Premier Shimon Peres, saying that President Reagan would ask Congress to approve the supplementary aid which Israel has requested. Shultz stated that the Reagan Administration appreciated the Israeli government’s efforts to undertake economic reforms and praised Peres personally for the way he is dealing with the economy. Shultz’s message also praised the government’s decision to withdraw from Lebanon and to advance the cause of peace in the Middle East.
