Israel Lodges Complaint Against Jordan; Prepared for Jerusalem Parade

April 17, 1961
See Original Daily Bulletin From This Date

The Israel Government today submitted an urgent complaint to the Mixed Armistice Commission against the concentration of Jordanian troops and armor in the Old City of Jerusalem. The United Nations commission will investigate the complaint.

This move constitutes belated Israeli reaction to Jordan’s complaint against Israel’s Independence Day parade in Jerusalem which resulted in the adoption last week by the United Nations Security Council of a resolution against Israel’s preparations for the parade which is to take place this Thursday. Meanwhile, various units of the Israel Army are already arriving in Jerusalem for the parade and are establishing camp near the route which the parade is to follow.
