Israel made progress on a plan to pull troops out of a contentious zone between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. After meeting Thursday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Israel’s defense minister, Shaul Mofaz, said the two countries had reached a basic agreement on an Israeli pullout from that zone, called the Philadelphia corridor, the Jerusalem Post reported.
