Israel may blow up synagogues in Gaza Strip settlements evacuated next month. Security sources said Thursday that while most settler property will be bulldozed during the withdrawal, engineering experts feel that dynamiting the synagogues, which tend to be larger buildings, would be more efficient. Another benefit relates to fears of Palestinian vandalism: Blowing up the synagogues would be less likely to leave behind recognizable rubble that could be desecrated.
