Israel Names New Ambassador to Moscow; Held Post of Envoy in Norway

Reuven Barkatt, Israel’s Ambassador to Norway, was today appointed Ambassador to the Soviet Union, according to an official announcement by the Foreign Ministry. He replaces Dr. Arieh Harel, who is returning to Israel to resume his medical profession. Mr. Barkatt was born in Lithuania in 1906 and was head of the political department of the Histadrut, Israel’s Federation of Labor, before joining the foreign service last year as Israel’s envoy to Norway.
