Tightened security measures were ordered here during the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s scheduled appearance. The orchestra, which gave two performances under the direction of Zubin Mehta, was heavily guarded by police and military units, particularly the concert attended by Venezuela’s President, Rafael Caldera and his wife.

Orchestra members told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that at no time after the Munich massacre occurred on Sept. 5, when the orchestra was in Brazil, was any consideration given to cancellation of the tour. The orchestra and its director received much critical acclaim here.
