Israel plans to broaden its attacks on Hamas targets in Gaza in response to cross-border rocket fire.

Security sources said Monday that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert signed off on the military’s proposal to regularly bomb Hamas compounds after Israel comes under rocket attack from the Gaza Strip.

The hit list for now does not appear to include targets from Hamas’ political wing.

Olmert is under mounting pressure to get tough after rockets rained on Sderot last week. On Sunday, a woman and her toddler son were injured by a direct hit on their home in nearby Kibbutz Zikim.

But Olmert is also loath to trigger escalation with Hamas ahead of next month’s visit to the region by President Bush.
