The remains of Peretz Smolenskin, famed Hebrew writer, which were brought from Italy to Israel this week, were reburied here today at the national cemetery on Mt. Herzl. Premier Ben Gurion, Acting President Joseph Sprinzak and prominent figures in the Israeli literary world attended the ceremony.
The procession, which moved through the capital’s main streets, was led by several classes of elementery schoolchildren. The coffin, which arrived here from Tel Aviv, was met by an official escort at Ramleh. The remains were buried close to the section reserved for the Herzl family. Smolenskin died in 1885 at the age of 43.
