Israel said it would turn down an Egyptian request to move Yasser Arafat to the Gaza Strip. Ha’aretz reported Tuesday that Egypt, which has offered to help Prime Minister Ariel Sharon carry out his pledged pullout of Gaza, wants the Palestinian Authority president installed there as a figurehead leader to forestall an Islamist takeover.
