Israel, acting through its diplomatic missions abroad, has cautioned various governments against supporting expected Arab moves to push extreme anti-Israel resolutions at the United Nations General Assembly’s Middle East debate which begins this week. Israel is particularly concerned over expected Arab efforts to amend the Security Council’s Resolution 242. Israeli diplomats in world capitals are reportedly stressing that the adoption of any one-sided Arab-initiated moves would be harmful and that any changes in Resolution 242 could well prompt Jerusalem to withdraw its endorsement of that document.
