Defense Department officials confirmed today that the Reagan Administration will sell Israel 75 advanced F-16 fighter-bombers to cost $2.5 billion, the largest arms sale to Israel in four years. In 1978, the U.S. sold Israel 75 F-16s, all of which have been delivered.
According to the officials, Congress was notified privately of the Administration’s decision on Monday. It has 30 days following public notification expected later this month, to veto the sale. The veto must be by both houses. The F-16s are manufactured by General Dynamics. The Pentagon officials said the first should be on the assembly line in three years.
