Israel won its only medal of the 2000 Olympic Games when kayaker Michael Kolganov earned a bronze medal in the men’s K1 500-meter sprint. The medal won by Kolganov, an immigrant from the former Soviet Union and a member of Kibbutz Degania Bet, partially erased a disappointing Olympics by Israeli athletes.
