Israeli-born conductor Daniel Barenboim has been chosen to head the production of five of Richard Wagner’s operas at the 1988 Bayreuth Festival. The 42-year-old Barenboim, who heads the Paris Symphonic Orchestra, was selected from dozens of top internationally renowned conductors.
