An Israeli career diplomat was appointed by the Foreign Ministry today to coordinate the activities of all Israeli diplomatic missions abroad and their contacts with Governmental and non-Governmental agencies in the countries to which they are assigned. The appointee is Shmuel Divon, former Israeli Ambassador to Brazil and earlier the Ambassador to Ethiopia.
According to David Rivlin, Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mr. Divon will advise Israeli missions abroad on matters for which the Government and Jewish Agency are responsible and on which they work cooperatively in this country. The purpose of the appointment, Mr. Rivlin said, is to deepen contacts with Jewish communities abroad, a function which the Foreign Ministry considers one of its most important. Mr. Divon will instruct Israeli diplomats on how they can be of assistance, when required, in such fields as Jewish education, immigration and fund-raising.
