Israeli legislators in the Likud and Labor parties are renewing efforts to pass legislation to cancel the law for the direct election of the prime minister, the Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported. According to the paper, Prime Minister Ehud Barak is even considering reversing his position and backing the initiative.
