Sixteen Israeli maritime cadets arrived in New York on a training cruise aboard the Israeli cargo motor ship Hadar of the Zim Lines. The youngsters, aged 16 to 18, are students at the merchant marine training school in Netanya which is operated by ORT, the world-wide vocational training network. The cruise is part of their course leading to officers’ licenses. Israel also maintains a national maritime college at Acre to supply officers for the Navy and merchant marine. Israeli cargo ships, plying the world’s sea lanes, have always been used for training purposes.
