Israeli military experts analyzed the renewed U.S. bombing of North Vietnam with particular interest in view of the reportedly heavy losses of American B-52 bombers shot down mainly by Soviet-made SAM-2 missiles deployed in the Hanoi-Haiphong area. Sources here said Israeli military observers believed the North Vietnamese employed a new system to operate the SAM-2s. Israel is particularly concerned about the effectiveness of the ground-to-air missiles because they are deployed in dense concentrations by Egypt along the Suez Canal.
