Israeli officials reiterated that they would not be pressured by Washington regarding the extent of a further redeployment of Israeli troops in the West Bank. The comments came as U.S. Middle East envoy Dennis Ross, accompanied to the region by the assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, Martin Indyk, held talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders that are intended to pave the way for separate meetings with Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in London on May 4.
