The country-wide commemorative exercises honoring the name of the late Dr. Chaim Weizmann, who died 10 years ago, were joined last night by the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, which held a special solemn session in memory of Israel’s first President.
Dr. Vera Weizmann, the late leader’s widow, shared a box with President and Mrs. Izhak Ben-Zvi. Dr. Chaim Weizmann’s son and sister were present, as were Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Nissim; Dr.. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Zionist Organization; members of the Jewish Agency executive, members of the academic and administrative staffs of the Hebrew University and the Weizmann Institute; Lord Rothschild and other dignitaries.
Speaker Kaddish Luz traced the career of the first President from his schoolboy days in Pinsk, where he distributed Zionist leaflets, through his Presidency of Israel.
