Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told Colin Powell that Israel is committed to achieving a cease-fire. The U.S. secretary of state told Sharon in a Nov. 21 phone conversation that Israel should halt settlement activity and continue its withdrawal from Palestinian cities. Sharon plans to arrive in Washington the first week of December to meet with President Bush.
