Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and his aides held behind-the-scenes talks aimed at convincing the fervently Orthodox Shas Party to withdraw its resignation from the government. Barak tried to put a brave face on the coalition crisis, saying the troubles are “at least partially the result of our determination to move forward” with the peace process.
