Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak cut short a trip abroad because of the violence in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Barak, who canceled a meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, was expected to convene his Security Cabinet to discuss the escalation in violence by Palestinian gunmen.
