Israeli scientists made a major advance in fighting a genetic disease that is common among Jews. A team of researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science recently solved the structure of a 3-D enzyme whose mutation causes Gaucher disease. The discovery may lead to new treatments for the disease, which causes swelling of the spleen and liver and may also affect the brain.
