A 19-year-old Israeli soldier has been selected as one of the three finalists in the 40th Geneva competition for young pianists, the America-Israel Cultural Foundation has announced.
It said that Danny Gortler, of Ramat Gan, had been one of the four Israeli contestants from among the 90 who entered for the competition. Two Israelis were eliminated in the first round, and another in the second round. The field was narrowed Sunday to Gortler, and a Brazilian and a Japanese. The winner will be announced on August 29.
