More than 450 people turned out yesterday to celebrate Israel’s 28th anniversary. The large turnout was described by Dr. Jack Stanzler, chairman of the event which was sponsored by the Jewish Community Council of Flint, as “a demonstration of solidarity with the State of Israel.”
Addressing the meeting, Rep. Donald Riegle Jr. (D.Mich.) said that the relationship between Israel and America is “undying” and that “support for Israel will always be forthcoming from this country.” Another speaker, Robert Leonard, vice-president of the 7000-member National District Attorneys Association, said that a delegation of the Association which just returned from Israel has issued a call of support for the Jewish State. Mrs. Lea Harris represented the government of Israel at the event. Flint has some 2800 Jewish residents.
