Israel’s first atomic reactor at Nabi Rubin, 10 miles south of Tel Aviv, will shortly complete its running-in period after two months of operation, it was reported here today.
The reactor, which was built with American aid and uses uranium-enriched rods furnished by the United States, has already achieved an output of 1, 000 kilowatts, it was learned here. The plant, erected at a cost of 6, 000, 000 pounds ($3, 180, 000), is of the “swimming pool” type.
An official ceremony, inaugurating the operation of the reactor, is scheduled to be held in a few weeks. The reactor plant will be used to train technicians for work on atomic power plants.
