Israel’s attorney general asked the High Court of Justice to reject a petition challenging the appointment of Israel’s new Ashkenazi chief rabbi, Yona Metzger. Elyakim Rubinstein said no police complaints had been filed on the sexual harassment allegations raised in the petition, so there was no need for legal intervention. Reports earlier this week said Rubinstein planned to ask Metzger not to sit as head of Israel’s Supreme Rabbinical Court because he had not completed his rabbinic judicial studies. Metzger says the allegations are baseless.
