Israel’s defense minister on Sunday confirmed reports that Israel plans to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Shaul Mofaz said the prisoners were administrative detainees who were nearing their release time, and denied that the release was a goodwill gesture toward the Palestinian Authority’s new prime minister, Mahmoud Abbas, Israel Radio reported.
