Israel’s foreign minister said the first months of the term of Palestinian Authority’s new prime minister will be critical to show if he is willing and able to crack down on terrorism. If Mahmoud Abbas doesn’t take serious steps against Palestinian terrorist organizations during the first month or two of his term, he’s unlikely to do so later, Silvan Shalom said Monday.
