The reason that Israeli housewives will be forced to put their electric stoves and similar home appliances in storage for the next few months is that the electric power thus saved will be diverted to irrigation pumping stations this summer, it was learned here today.
Last week the government banned the use of such electrical appliances except for a two and one-half period daily, between 4:00 and 7:30 P. M. The failure of the Palestine Electric Corporation to install new equipment to increase available electric power in proportion to Israel’s expanding population and economy is behind the present shortage of current.
