One hundred Jews who were slated for deportation to the Lipari penal isles after their illegal entry into Italy from Austria were released today. Italian authorities agreed to allow them to proceed to an IRO camp.

The chairman of the camp committee at an installation for displaced Jews near Turin was beaten yesterday by British officers when he refused to order the inmates of the camp to cooperate in the officere’s search for deserters who they alleged might be hiding in the camp.
