The Union of Italian Jewish Communities disclosed today that the Italian Defense Ministry has been giving permission for the past two months for exemption from military duties on Saturdays to Italian Jewish servicemen who request it.

The decision was believed to have been made after the Ministry received a request for such Saturday exemption from the Seventh Day Adventists earlier this year. The Adventists had asked for such exemption for themselves and for Jewish servicemen. Those relieved of military duty on Saturday must make it up on Sunday.
