The Italian Government was sharply criticized here today by Avanti, official newspaper of the Italian Socialist party, for having taken no steps thus far to obtain from the West German Government compensation to Italian victims of Nazism.

According to Avanti, Italy and Switzerland are the only Western European countries that have not as yet even tried to negotiate such an agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany. The newspaper declares that hundreds of Italian citizens had suffered losses under the Nazi regime, while many others had been sent to extermination camps, “for racial, ideological or political” reasons.
