The Union of Italian Jewish Communities has won another battle against official discrimination against Jews.
After a protest by the Union, the Ministry of Justice has revoked an order that would have required Jewish prisoners in Rome’s Regina Coeli Prison to apply in writing for permission for a rabbi to visit them. The Union pointed out that this procedure, which was not applied to Catholics, was a violation of the Italian Constitution. The Ministry concurred and withdrew the offending order.
